£283m – the cost of male summer flirtations
More than two full working days and over £283m in wages are wasted by men daydreaming about women and their summer skin.
Research[1] released today by Britain’s number one men’s magazine NUTS has found that an increase in naked female flesh caused by the summer’s soaring temperatures is set to cause a huge decline in male productivity - with companies having to fork out a whopping £283m to foot the bill!
The results showed that chaps’ concentration is directly effected by rising hem lines and low cut tops with more than two thirds of men spending an average of 17 minutes a day (2.25 summer working days) distracted by the fairer sex in summer which equates to a sizeable £283,600,000 in wasted wages[2].
Furthermore, a massive 80% of men questioned, confessed that an exposed cleavage is number one in the ‘distractivity stakes’ securing more then half of the vote (57%). However legs still stood tall with over a quarter of the vote (27%) showing the age old divide ‘legs Vs breasts’ to still be present.
The results also suggest that with two thirds of men admitting to feeling more amorous in the summer months and over a third of men spending up to 30 minutes a day flirting in the work place, the season seems to be a natural aphrodisiac. However, surprisingly the photocopier did not appear to be the ‘flirtation station’ of choice; despite being a classic venue for work related promiscuity in the 80s. The survey revealed that today’s man is more cock sure with over a third (34% )of men preferring to flirt directly at a co-workers’ desk and over two thirds preferring a face to face dalliance.
Nuts Editor at Large, Pete Cashmore says, "Its no secret that we gentlemen love the summer because of all the extra flesh on show. So if rising hemlines are causing distraction in the office and decreased productivity, they are at least motivating us more than ever in the love stakes. Summer really is the sexiest time of the year so you'll never hear us complain if the sun is shining – our bosses, however, might see it another way!”
Other key findings:
77% of men would prefer to have the distraction then work without it
62% of men believe that they flirt more in the summer due to girls summer clothing
52% of men choose to send up to 5 flirtatious emails a day
35% of men were distracted up to 5 times a day for at least 4 minutes a time
10% of men are distracted by over 20minutes at a time
