FIFA 09 PS3 review

Game review for FIFA 09 on the PS3 which was released on October 6, 2008. An amazing game with superb graphics and much improved gameplay over FIFA 08, but how will it fair against PES 2009? Pretty well, we imagine 4.5/5 for FIFA 09 from us.

Now, FIFA 08 was a pretty damn good game and won us over from PES 2008 due to it's much easier gameplay, realistic graphics and real team names and players. However, over the course of the year, we found ourselves loading PES 2008 up more often than FIFA 08 because, we thought, PES is a real mans game. Well, that was until FIFA 09.

FIFA 09: Improvements

According to EA, there have been over 250 additions and enhancements to core gameplay, FIFA 09 on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and Xbox 360 claim to deliver an authentic football simulation that enables you to customize the game to suit your style and ability. Well, we reckon that's probably right. On loading the game, you have Ronaldinho in his new AC Milan kit on the ball, and while you're loading your game, you can have a kick about against a 'keeper. Even though it's such a novel touch, it makes the game-load pass within seconds. It's a great touch, and definitely gets a thumbs up!

Also, there seems to be a new, envigorated, animation technology which makes more responsive first-time shooting and passing, faster and more controlled dribbling, and improved trapping. It's what we all thought PES 2008 would had, but didn't.

There is also an integrated player momentum physics, so that lets you deliver realistic player collisions, authentic jostling for the ball, and more variation in tackling. The only problem we had was that we thought the players were running far too slowly. But when we changed the controls to the PES 2008 controls, it became alot easier to control.

FIFA 09 - Consoles

FIFA 09 is available not only on PS3 and Xbox 360, but also the Wii, in an All-Star mode, the PC, PSP system and Nintendo DS.

Be A Pro

The manjor improvement to the FIFA 09 game is the Be a Pro Season you choose a player to be throughout the season and you control only them. We tried it for 5 minutes, but it takes a lot of getting used to, especially as you only control one of the players - when you're more used to flicking the L1 button to deviate between players. However, there is no doubting the matchday experience is now true-to-life with a referee and linesmen on the pitch. Plus, crowds, stadium atmosphere and commentary have all been regionalized in exact detail.

FIFA 09 is a fantastic game, and released 3 weeks before PES 2009, it is definitely going to be getting many more PES fans converted. Is it THE football game we've always wanted? Well, we can't make a decision just yet, as PES 2009 is only 3 weeks away. The jury is out, and playing games...
