Playstation 3 Console - the PS3 Back

Playstation 3 Console - the PS3

Playstation 3 Console - the PS3The Playstation 3 is here - and WOW - it sure is big!

We got 2 this morning at 12, and considering its launch day, we were pretty chuffed.

Where to start - well for £525 quid, we got this from GAME with 3 games. Not the best deal at all, with PLAY.com doing the deal - 3 games, a HDMI cable and a BluRay movie for £525. We'd definitely advise buying from PLAY.

Anyway, to the console. It seems to use the same font for the PS3 logo as Spiderman uses for his movies, and its as sparkly as Spidermans suit to boot.

The first thing you notice is how big it is. You can tell that they've put a Bluray player in it simply because of the size.

The controls are good, easy to use, but the power button looks like it may break if you press it too hard. That's certainly a negative point, considering most of us at Studento.com way 13 stones or more.

We plugged it in and it was easy to configure. The menus are easy to use, and it looks stunning on HDMI output.

After we cleared up the drool, we put it a game, Sonic.

From the moment you put in the game, the graphics are sensational. Sonic is ducking and diving like no ones business, but it hasnt got the same pizazz as the MegaDrive counterpart.

But going back to the console, it performs brilliantly. The graphics are smooth, the PS3 is deadly quiet, and the controller is a joy to use.

The only problem we found was connecting it to a wireless network.

Does it have wireless with it? Well, we didnt know - it has an ethernet port to connect it to your LAN network, but the wireless bit baffled us. Once we've got that sorted, we can then review the PS3 online gaming facility.

Sitting next to a 360 and a Wii, we have to say the PS3 is much shinier, but equally bigger.

With no Pro Evo out on the PS3 yet, we have to say 360 has the better games, and with Wii Sports, the Wii holds the entertainment and gameplay crown.

The PS3 certainly has a lot of work to do before it wins over our hearts.

Verdict: Impressive, but it's no Wii - and it can't beat the 360 yet because Pro Evo isnt out on it!

You gotto love the PS3. It`s amaaaaaaazing!
