Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
Usually, we get sent these games to play and then we review them. But, can you believe it - we had to pay for our copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008!
Anyway, we bought a copy, needless to say - and plugged it straight in. From the moment you turn the console on you feel the tingling excitement of what is Pro Evolution Soccer. Yes. It's back.
We immediately jump into Exhibition mode, and pit Brazil against Italy. The everlasting rivalry continues on PS3.
As we started playing, the graphics were super, and the attention to detail excellent. But, we couldn't help feel that there was an over-advertisement everywhere on the pitch. You couldn't move your eyes anywhere on the screen without seeing a board for MySpace, Zoo or some other product or service that quite frankly you didn't want to see.
Even still, the game continued. Pressing pause you see the dugout, and that is, we all agree, a very nice addition to the game.
However, sad to say it - we felt that something was missing from the gameplay. It was slow, lethargic almost - and free kicks, as usual, were awful to control.
But as Pro Evolution Soccer nuts, we tried not to believe our eyes and put the game in Network mode. Logging in, we pitted ourselves against some 10 year old German kid. And we got thrashed!
However, with the network play, the game stuttered, a lot. You'd have the ball one minute, and not in the next. However, still, refuting the fact that Pro Evo 2008 may have lost its touch we continued playing on the net - all of our opponents chose Barcelona (suprise?) for some reason - perhaps the best squad on paper would have something to do with it. But nevertheless, the gameplay was very jagged and uneasy.
All in all, as good as it looks, it just seems Pro Evo may have lost its crown.
What does that mean for us? That means one thing - we're going to have to buy FIFA 08, and review that!
