Life is Sweet Bluray Review
Life is Sweet is a film full of sweet moments that will also leave you thinking by the end of the film.
Alison Steadman is the matriarch of an ordinary lower middle class family and her husband, Jim Broadbent, has a million plans in order to escape his job, none of which ever come to fruition. However, the family unit is larger than that and consists of a bulimic daughter and her thoughtful twin as well as a cruel boyfriend. As the film opens you really do think what have I let myself into?
The film provides an array of political and social statements from the late '80's which manifest themselves through the cast. It is often said that the best films can be about real life, if so this would win the Oscar. Life is Sweet is an absolutely stunning piece of work and includes a number of great performances.
Overall, Life is Sweet is a self-contained film around an almost self-contained family unit that you see over the course of a week or so. As usual you will find yourself picking out similarities between those on screen and those who you would count as your nearest and dearest. Furthermore, the film reminds us that we do not always know the ins and outs of our own families. More importantly, the film will leave you thinking what the future will hold for the family.
