Quarantine (REC remake) Blu-Ray review
Quarantine is a remake of the Spanish film REC and out on 9th March 2009; doesn't quite cust the Spanish mustard.
Carpenter plays Angel Vidal (she's the woman from Exorcism of Emily Rose) who is a TV reporter. Alongside her cameraman (Harris), they are assigned to spend the night shift with a Los Angeles Fire Station. It all seems quite boring until they get a 911 call at a local block of flats. When they get there, the cops are already on the scene and you can hear the blood curdling screams echo (particularly in Blu-Ray TrueHD audio!) around the street.
The crew venture inside the building, but whether they make it back out remains to be seen.
Zombie Quarantine
It's a zombie movie at heart, filmed in the style of Blair Witch. It's definitely better than the Blair Witch, but if you've seen REC, this is literally a shot by shot remake adding very little to the original apart from the fact you don't need to read subtitles. Will Americans ever learn they can't just remake a movie and expect it to be better than the original?
The audio in the film is stunning, with the TrueHD bellowing out the screams across your living room. Quarantine stars Columbus Short, Jay Hernandez, Jennifer Carpenter, Johnathon Schaech, Marin Hinkle, Rade Serbedzija, Denis O'Hare, Steve Harris, Greg Germann and Joey King.
We give Quarantine 3/5 stars - and would get REC 4/5 stars.
