One Missed Call
An American remake of Takashi Miike's Japanese film of the same name (Chakushin Ari), One Missed Call revolves around the death of a circle of individuals all connected by one chilling fact. Before they die, they get a missed call, which leaves a voicemail. These voicemails note the date, time, and details of their death. Is death drop-calling them to forewarn them of their death... only time will tell!
Shannyn Sossamon and Edward Burns lead the cast of this horror. Similar to Pulse (and the other Japanese films remade for the Americans who can't read subtitles) One Missed Call shows just why we shouldn't rely too much on modern technology. The forumla is the same for everyone's death - you receive a missed call, get left a voicemail, and you die. It's a good film to pass over 88 minutes, but you've seen it all before with other Japanese horror remakes.
You've got the now-standard blurry corpses, premonitions and 'will he or wont he save they day'. Combined with the 5.1 channel sound, the ambient murmurs, rattles and gasps will catch you at one point or another. But, in fairness, this got old as soon as The Ring 2 came out.
It's definitely worth getting out from Blockies or Lovefilm, and if you've got a spare tenner, why not... just don't answer your phone!
Out to own on September 29, 2008 - One Missed Call comes in a stunning holographic DVD case that is worth £9.99 alone!
