Pride & Prejudice

The sumptuous new adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel, Pride and Prejudice , is being released on DVD by Universal Pictures (UK) Ltd on 6 th February 2006. The acclaimed movie - the first film version of Pride and Prejudice for 65 years - is produced by Working Title Films in association with StudioCanal.

Pride and Prejudice has provided the template for many recent romantic comedies including Working Title's own blockbusters Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason . This spectacular new film version, directed by BAFTA Award-winner Wright (Charles II: The Power & The Passion ), presents Jane Austen's powerful romantic tale as it was written.

The star-studded cast featuring the enchanting Keira Knightley ( Pirates of the Caribbean, Love Actually, King Arthur ), the charming Matthew McFadyen ( Spooks, In My Father's Den) , Academy Award® winner Dame Judi Dench ( Shakespeare in Love, Iris ), screen legend Donald Sutherland ( Backdraft, The Italian Job) and Academy Award® nominee Brenda Blethyn ( Secrets and Lies, Little Voice) bring this best-selling love story to life.

The film follows the adventures of the five very different Bennet sisters in their attempts to find husbands and includes Keira Knightley as the strong willed Elizabeth/Lizzy Bennet, Rosamund Pike ( Doom, Die Another Day, Wives & Daughters ) as the serene and beautiful Jane and Jena Malone ( American Girl, Stepmom ) as the young and impetuous Lydia. Mary Bennet is played by Talulah Riley , Kitty Bennet by Carey Mulligan.

The classic tale of love and misunderstanding unfolds in class-conscious England near the close of the 18 th century. The Bennet sisters have been raised well aware of their mother's (Blethyn) fixation on finding them husbands and securing set futures. The spirited and intelligent Elizabeth, however, strives to live her life with a broader perspective, as encouraged by her doting father (Sutherland).
