The Incredible Hulk
Cult 70’s television show The Incredible Hulk is released for the first time onto DVD from 28th August 2006.
The Incredible Hulk: Season 1 (£34.99) contains all 13 episodes from the first series, a bonus episode from season 2 and the original pilot show.
The Incredible Hulk tells the story of Dr. David Bruce Banner (Bill Baxter), a scientist researching incredible strength in humans.
He discovers that gamma radiation is at the centre of superhuman strength, and convinced by the link, decides to put it to the test and deliberately dose himself with gamma radiation.
However, a problem in the machine results in him receiving a far higher gamma dose than anticipated. Whilst there is no immediate effect, he accidentally injures himself changing a car tyre in the rain, the frustration and anger results in him transforming into a massively powerful green giant: The Incredible Hulk (Lou Ferrigno).
FACTS FROM THE SHOW
1. Arnold Schwarzenegger was considered for the role of the Hulk, but it was decided at 6’ 2” he was not tall enough
2. The original Hulk was played by Richard Kiel (Jaws in the Bond films), but he was dropped during the filming of the pilot for not being bulky enough
3. The melancholy theme tune is called ‘Superheroes’ and is taken from
The Rock Horror Picture Show and was written by Richard O'Brien
4. Before filming began on the series, Lou Ferrigno and Bill Bixby made an
arrangement to never watch each other acting on the set. They thought this would strengthen the atmosphere of the series (so Dr Banner did not know what the Hulk had done and vice versa)
5. Lou Ferrigno's make-up took two and a half hours to apply.
