The Ruins DVD review
Based on the best-selling novel by Scott Smith The Ruins, released on October 13, 2008 follows a group of friends who become entangled in a brutal struggle for survival after visiting a remote archaeological dig in the Mexican jungle.
Suprise, suprise, there be evil in 'dem jungles. Jonathan Tucker (The Black Donnellys), Jena Malone (Pride and Prejudice), Shawn Ashmore (X-Men: The Last Stand), Laura Ramsey (She's the Man) and Joe Anderson (Across the Universe), become trapped on the site by 'local' inhabitants who will not allow the group to leave... at any cost! As in many of the 'horror-flicks' released in recent years, little is left to the imagination, and it's a little like The Happening - it's a good premise, but alas it really doesn't quite live up to the hype. However, it definitely passes a few hours and is a good group watch, especially in halls of residence! Alas, it's not a movie to buy your mother, but it's a good one for your best mate, on a budget... we give it 6/10.
