The Wrestler DVD review

The Wrestler DVD reviewThe Wrestler - everyone knows the name; stars Mickey Rourke as a retired wrestler making his way on the independent wrestling circuit. It won a ton of Oscars; but is it good? Hell yes.

The Wrestler

Mickey Rourke alongside Ernest Miller, Marisa Tomei, Todd Barry, Evan Rachel Wood and Vale Anoai make this a stunning work of fiction. You can imagine many of the WWE/WWF superstars going on this trip after they've left their 'jobs'. Out on June 1, 2009, the DVD sees Rourke as Randy 'The Ram' Robinson; seeking to get back into shape for one final showdown against his arch rival from back in the day.

It just so happens Robinson is estranged from his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) and unable to sustain any real relationships. Randy is a wrestler, and nothing else. He lives for the love of the show, and his fans. After a heart attack however, Randy realises he has to make some differences in his life and tries to redevelop his relationships.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky, The Wrestler will have you cheering, crying, jeering and laughing. The Wrestler is quite simply an outstanding film. We give it 4.3 out of 5 stars.
