This Sporting Life DVD review

This Sporting Life DVD reviewThis Sporting Life is one of the most notable films from cinema’s British “New Wave” movement. Released on November 3, 2008, director Lindsay Anderson’s multi-award winning, gritty and powerful northern drama features a breakout performance from Richard Harris who later went on to star in Harry Potter.

Sporting Life DVD ratio

This is truly a film of epic proportions, with the DVD in HD print meaning it has the same ratio as if you were to see it at the cinema. The film stars Harris as Frank Machin; a miner who lodges with a recent widow - Mrs. Hammond. Machin's competitive nature and towering physique compel him to joining the local local rugby team. However, as he gains more and more success, he becomes harsher and more vulgar than he already is - showing a sense of insecurity against Hammond's kind nature.

Harris' performance gained him the award for Best Actor at Cannes and Roberts a similar nomination alongside a Palm d’Or nomination at Cannes for director Lindsay Anderson, this film looks at working class life in a bland northern England landscape.
