Wanted DVD Review
Wanted, as many of us know, is adapted from a comic. However the film creates a larger-than-life dynamism that comics have to offer and also feature the common spandex fests that we seem to becoming more accustomed to.
James McAvoy (Last King of Scotland) acts the part of Wesley a typical nerd in almost every aspect of his life, sound familiar? However things get slightly more interesting when Wesley bumps into Fox (Angelina Jolie). Yet this isn’t a normal meeting, it’s littered with riotous yet gobsmacking assassination attempts, car chases and other types of near-death experiences – sounds like fun for all you adrenaline junkies out there.
Once disputes are settled, the geeky nerd Wesley finds out that he is actually the son of a grade-A assassin who was a member of a secret gang of super-human hitmen – only if they did an assassination GCSE. These hit men aren’t the normal hire to kill hitmen instead they use their skills to maintain the status quo. Just to make things even more interesting it seems like good old Wesley has inherited his old mans killer instincts.
Along the lines of The Matrix and Fight Club, Wesley is brought into the gang and is broken down physically and mentally and rebuilt as a human death factory, all in order to help bring down a rogue member of the hitmen clique. It’s made even better through the achievement of some truly ballistic adrenaline-fuelled action scenes of a truly gobsmacking nature.
The extras are unfortunately a little meagre. A short look at the filming of the Viper car chase and the use of authentic medieval Chicago architecture is interesting enough but unfortunately is slightly too short.
