A survey from Norwich Union has just showed that parents of UK students spend on average more than £1,300 a year on each child - not inclusive of accommodation bills.
A Norwich Union survey of just over 1,000 parents declared that parents of UK students spent £60 on trips, £50 on kits, £30 on text books and just over £260 on food.
The most suprising element for any student would be the massive amount spent on text books - as everyone knows student do little work at university!
The survey also showed that parents of younger students can expect to spend 1,000 hours helping their children with homework between the ages of 5 and 16.
Male students appear to be more costly than female students - with boys more likely to have tuition and attend after-school clubs. Boys also spent more at university on consoles such as PSP, PS2s and MP3 players, adding to their student debt.
But parents of girls can expect to spend more on shoes than boys' parents.
