Students at London College of Fashion see marks increased

Wed, 26 Jul 2006
The London College of Fashion has come into disrepute as many overseas students have had their marks bumped up. This ws done according to allowances applying only to overseas students, leaked documents to the Times Higher Education have revealed.

These documents disclose an e-mail message exchange between lecturers at the London college, which forms part of the University of Arts.

Within these e-mail messages, a London college course director promotes for a tutor to increase a certain student's mark, citing that "She is an international student...we would give her allowances for that."

Another highlighted issue is of a student receiving 65% for an assignment, and positive feedback from the tutor. The course director then wrote back in the email that "It's hard to see why [she] only got 65 - she is an international student so we could give her an allowance for that, such as 70%." This sort of mark scaling infuriates UK students who would normally get the cited mark.

However, a spokeswoman for the London college has said that the college is taking the allegations seriously, and is undertaking an investigation to get to the bottom of this marking debacle.

According to many, universities like Imperial College London, University College London and many more top UK universities, the London College of Fashion is bringing shame to the London reputation for students.
