A prestigious university is introducing a scheme offering discounts to those students who pay their three years tuition fee payment before starting their course.
Gloucestershire University is issuing student undergraduates who can afford this one time payment a discount of 10%, which equates to £900 of the total £9,000 tuition fee charged.
However, this scheme does not apply to students taking out student loans to pay off their student tuition fees at the start of each academic year.
The NUS (National Union of Students) has said that this was unfair as students from poorer backgrounds would end up paying more.
In turn, this would lead to poorer students having increased debt. Many believe this would lead to students taking out loans and finding mortgage repayments difficult once graduated.
Gloucestershire University will give the eligible students their 10% fee refund back to students at the end of each academic year.
Student who can afford to pay for the whole course duration also get an extra 10% off for the time-being.
