Almost 80% of students spend more than £30 on their partners, research carried out by Student-Finance.co.uk has found. Students in the UK have been furious about new tuition top up fees which has been blamed for a rise in student debt. However, it seems students across the UK are not letting debt come in the way of love.
The majority interviewed were boys, with 59% of boys spending more than £30, and a mere 5% over £50 on their loved ones. Presents this year included the new iPod MP3 players, lingerie, cuddly toys and flowers.
Female students on the other hand were less likely to spend more tha £30, with 70% deciding to spend £25 or less. Gifts to men included perfumes, clothes, games for the XBOX 360 and Wii and also PSP games.
The research conducted over the last month surveyed 7,945 students from universities including Imperial, UCL, Brighton, Reading, Oxford and Edinburgh.
Interestingly enough, 35% of the students interviewed were still going out with a partner they met at school or college. Who said dating was dead!
