Plymouth university's vice-chancellor died when power cables came crashing down during a storm in his home of Devon.
Professor Roland Levinsky from the University of Plymouth had been walking his terrier when the accident occurred in a field in Wembury only 3 days ago.
Although an ambulance was called, the Professor died at the scene. Roland Levinsky was 63.
Professor Levinsky became vice-chancellor of Plymouth University in late 2002. He was also a professor of medicine in Plymouth and professor of immunology for the University of London.
Students were said to be deeply shocked and saddened by his untimely death.
