Students in the UK have been issued a stark warning - put detailed information on your social networking profile, and risk identity fraud.
Almost 70% of the UK's student university population has either a MySpace or Facebook profile. However, with details such as name, date of birth, hometown, current job, financial income, earnings and other details such as what you own listed on many profiles, fraudsters are seizing an opportunity to commit identity fraud.
A spokeswoman for Imperial College Student Union said that students have been issued a caution, not to put too much information on their profiles or blogs as this could lead to sudden debt due to identity theft.
Some students have reportedly had identities stolen and had items such as laptops, MP3 players, cash deposits, computers, cars and betting slips cashed against their name.
