UK students told not to cheat on their UCAS forms

Thu, 04 Oct 2007
Students in post-16 education in the UK are being forewarned not to cheat on their university application forms which are handed into UCAS, by copying information from the internet.

UCAS has personally written to every UK educational institution informing them that students who copy information from the internet are disadvantaged when trying to secure a university place.

UCAS claims that it will have plagiarism detection technology in place by 2008 to monitor the half a million forms it receives. A recent study suggested that 1 in 20 UCAS student applicants cheated on their personal statements.

UCAS stated that the personal statement should be unique and 'personal', as it gives students the to chance distinguish themselves from other students with similar qualifications.
