According to an academic who requests to stay anonymous, degrees are being awarded to foreign and overseas students even though they can speak little or no English.
According to the BBC, the academic is at a world-famous UK university and has raised concerns that this may threaten the reputation of UK degrees.
Foreign students are welcomed by many universities as such students pay higher tuition fees. Many Chinese, English and European students are at almost all of the UK's universities. With debt, accommodation costs and general living costs rising for UK students, overseas students often have funding whether it be a loan, such as a student loan from the respective Government; student grant or money from family and parents.
Payments from overseas students is over £1.5 billion pounds a year, with £2.2 billion pounds spent on the cost of living.
Over 60% of degree students are from outside the UK. Many cite the increasing student debt, living costs and accommodation situation for a decline in the number of UK students.
