As a student, you're probably not suprised, but a survey conducted by student website Studento.com has found that 79% of students have more than one bank account when heading off to university.
The rise from 65% last year has been attributed to the credit crunch. Students are less able to get credit cards, are paying over £50 more in student accommodation and are inevitably fearful of the debt they will accrue whilst studying.
The most popular bank was Natwest (37%) amongst the 1003 students questioned, with HSBC just 1% less popular with 36%. The smile account from Co-Op was in the list of student bank accounts this year for the first time, with 7% of students choosing the smile bank account.
Another noteworthy finding from the survey was that with accommodation fees and rising debt, students are increasingly worried that their loans will take longer to pay off and have started to take more part time jobs. 52% of students questioned now have a part time job, compared to 43% last year.
Almost all UK students and foreign students are back at university this week.
