Cheap Student Computers
No matter what you do in this day and age the chances are you will require a home computer, be this a desktop or a laptop.
If you're a super boffin looking for the absolute best of the best then I doubt you will be reading this and if you are you're certainly not going to listen to any advice that I can give. One particularly good discount that is open to you is with Apple computers.
Apple offers discounts to all students in their stores or on their phone store but you can get a bigger discount if your university is part of the Apple discount scheme. The best way to find out about either of these offers is to speak to your student union. For a list of cheap computer sellers check the following links:
Cheap Student Laptops
It is advisable to buy a laptop over a desktop if you’re living away from home. Firstly because it’s unlikely you’ll live in the same place for your entire time so it’s easier to move a laptop than a desktop. Secondly, you can take your desktop into uni for projects and other work with ease. Just make sure you have it insured.
For more information see our insurance section here.
Cheap student software
There is a lot of computer software designed for academia especially for any course involving maths, computing and design. Some of the software you may need will be very expensive but you can often buy the software from your department at a discounted rate. The best thing to do is speak to a lecturer about this.
Some companies actually offer student versions of software on the high street, such as Microsoft office for Mac.
