Student accommodation

In your first year of university you're likely to be either living in halls of residence of at home. After this the majority of universities will expect you to make your own living arrangements.

There are several places you go go for help with finding flats or housing for students. The first stop is usually your University accommodation office. To find out information about your accommodation office you will need to contact your union.

If you're looking for student accommodation then check out some of the links below:

Student flats

Many students will look into renting a flat over renting a house as there is usually more availability. However, depending on how many people you're looking to share your accommodation with this is not always the best option.

If you're studying in central London then it is very unlikely that you will be able to rent a house due to the high prices, however there is huge availability of flats in central London.

Student flat shares

If you're looking to find a room in a flat with other people then there are also lots of options available. Again, your student accommodation office should be able to help and you will often find notice boards around your campus with available flat shares.

If you're looking for a single room in a flat share then you will probably have more choice as you only need to consider your own needs rather than looking for a flat to suit your friends too.

Student houses

Another option, if you can afford it, is to buy a house or flat. You can then rent out the other rooms in order to cover the cost of the mortgage.

This way you're not paying any rent yourself and you're getting into the property market. To do this you'll probably have to use your parents, unless you have a source of income acceptable enough to get a mortgage.
