Student guide to gap years - Accommodation
Hostels are the weapon of choice for most of us working abroad, seeing as you'll want to conserve money.
How safe hostels are varies immensely and gap year folk often rely on Rough Guide or Lonely Planet guidebooks. But don't forget to ask other gappers what the score is if they've been to a place you're venturing to!
Not many hostels will be 5* in their accommodation providing. So, expect the occasional cockroach or two, and remember its worth paying a little bit extra to be in a safer and more secure area.
However, some employers may have their own places where you can reside.
