The amount of people who came up to me with a stupid smile and an annoyingly polite voice and said, “Hi my name's... , I study the philosophy of Polish chair making, what do you study?” was ridiculous.

If you want to make friends be funny, crack a joke, ask them their preferred methods of killing deer, just don’t talk about your course and what other universities they applied to, in fact just don’t talk about yourself.

Chances are as soon as you reveal anything about yourself people will want to shoot you. Don’t be scared to use cheesy chat up lines, they work wonders, are a good icebreaker and make people laugh.

The all time best chat up line I have ever heard is “I have a nine inch tongue and can breathe through my ears” now this works for both males and females so use it.
