Graduate bank accounts
The majority of student bank accounts will be turned into what is known as a graduate account after you finish university.
Banks don’t tend to seek proof that you’ve graduated so even if you fail your course you may find your student account is converted in to a graduate account upon the completion date of your course, which you state when you first open your student account.
You can open a graduate account in with a different bank than you had your student account with so don’t feel that you are tied to staying loyal to your student account provider.
As with student accounts graduate accounts lure people in by offering interest free overdrafts. If you have finished university with outstanding credit cards or high street loans then you may wish to find the largest interest free overdraft you can and use it to pay off other debts.
It is also important to make sure you’re getting the interest free overdraft for as long as possible.
