Coventry had the misfortune of being totally wrecked during WWII, but even more so, had the misfortune of being rebuilt in the 50s. The new architecture, in my humble opinion, is, in the words of Eric Cartman, "lame". It's a pretty industrial town, and it seems that the main hobby of the residents is taking the mick out of neighbours from Birmingham and Nuneaton. Students have been known to try and recreate the "Lady Godiva" trick of riding around the town naked on horseback, and it's actively encouraged by the local populace (I wonder why). Just make sure you've had more than "a few too many" before you try it, otherwise you may feel slightly embarrassed as well as cold. Students mainly hang out around the University and the Student's Union bars, mainly because students don't mix that well with the locals, but also because the beer is cheaper (makes sense). But the town is good for shopping and the occasional bit of pubbing and clubbing, and the cinemas, theatres and museums are all worth a look. Coventry is a cool place to go to university - don't even think about going anywhere else. |
