Besides having an absolutely woeful football team, an OK basketball team and the less said about the cricket team the better, Derby is one of the coolest places you can go to if you're thinking of going to university. Besides the fact that the University is great, and is full of attractive, intelligent, athletic students like yours truly, the city is also great fun as well. The only problem with Derby is the incessant rain. It's just a little too far north for a southern lad like me, and the beer is a little too warm. But having said that, the peak district is just a stone's throw away, and in the summer, places like Buxton and, to a lesser extent, Leek, are great places to sit outside and admire the view. In the winter, though, don't try and go up there as you will get caught in a snow-drift. I know what I'm talking about here. The most popular area of private sector student housing in Derby lies between the main University campus and Derby city centre. The roads and streets around Kedleston Road, Uttoxeter New Road and Ashbourne Road are within easy walking distance of the main site. The City Centre / Burton Road area is also popular, although just a little further to walk. Properties in these areas are the most sought after and often the first to be taken, but there is usually a good amount available |
